WHAT IS SAP R/3?

SAP (standing for "Systemalyse and Programmentwicklung - systems analysis and program development") was founded in Germany by five former IBM employees in 1972. Their aim was to develop standard application software for real-time processing. Since then, the company has grown by leaps and bounds.

Today, SAP now employs more than 23,700 people in more than 50 countries, and is the world's leading provider of collaborative e-business solutions. With 36,000 installations serving 10 million users at 13,500 organizations in 120 countries across the globe, SAP ranks as the world's third-largest independent software provider.

The company began trading publicly in 1988. It is listed on several stock exchanges, including the Frankfurt Stock Exchange and the New York Stock Exchange, where it trades under the symbol "SAP."

SAP provide an Application/Technical Academy, which they claim is the best route for those who do not have any SAP System know-how, who wish to gain knowledge and become a Certified Consultant for the SAP R/3 System.

Experienced, Non-Certified Consultants may take the exams directly, or supplement their knowledge with some alternative courses before taking the exams.

Financial Accounting is broken down into the following sub modules:

• General Ledger accounting
• Accounts Receivable
• Accounts Payable
• Legal Consolidations
• Special Purpose ledger
• Asset Accounting

Controlling is broken down into the following sub modules:

• Overhead Cost Controlling
• Product Cost Controlling
• Sales and Profitability Analysis
• Activity Based Costing
